Both FinFlow Track and Wave offer a genuinely free starting plan, so this isn't a "free vs. paid" comparison — it's about what each platform actually gives you at each price point. Wave is an established accounting platform with built-in payment processing, but as of August 14, 2026 it's positioned squarely around the US and Canada: new signups are limited to those markets, and your business's base currency is locked to USD or CAD. FinFlow Track is a newer platform built for global use, with multi-currency support and inventory included on every plan. This guide compares both objectively, feature by feature, so you can decide which fits your business.
FinFlow Track is designed for freelancers, startups, and small businesses anywhere in the world that want invoicing, expense tracking, inventory, and multi-currency support without a subscription commitment — with a permanently free starting plan and paid tiers that add companies, users, payroll, and AI-assisted bookkeeping as a business grows.
Wave is an established accounting platform with a genuinely free Starter plan for unlimited invoicing and bookkeeping, plus integrated payment processing that lets customers pay invoices directly by card, bank transfer, or Apple Pay. As of August 14, 2026, new Wave signups are limited to businesses in the US and Canada, and a business's base currency is fixed to USD or CAD when the account is created.
FinFlow Track may be the better fit if you're outside the US/Canada, need multi-currency support, or want inventory and AI bookkeeping included at every price point. Wave may be the better fit if you're a US or Canadian business that wants built-in payment processing and an established, widely-reviewed free tool without needing multi-currency support.

Both platforms genuinely offer a $0 plan — this isn't a case of one being "really" free and the other not. But free doesn't mean identical, and it doesn't mean unlimited in every dimension. The table below breaks down what you actually get without paying anything, checked on August 14, 2026.

FinFlow Track Free caps out at one company and two team members, but doesn't gate multi-currency, AI receipt scanning, or the AI Bookkeeper behind a paid plan — those are included from day one.
Wave Starter has no invoice, estimate, or bookkeeping-record limits and lets you accept online payments immediately, but automatic bank feed connections and unlimited receipt scanning specifically require the Pro plan (or a standalone receipt-scanning add-on), and it's only available to businesses signing up from the US or Canada.
Subscription price is only part of the cost. Payment-processing fees, add-ons, and regional pricing can matter more than the monthly plan fee, depending on how you use each platform. Figures below checked on August 14, 2026.
Market: Global · Currency: USD · Billing: Monthly · Date checked: August 14, 2026. Annual billing, where offered, may differ — see the pricing page for current details. FinFlow Track does not currently process customer payments on invoices, so no per-transaction processing fee applies on our side.
Wave's own subscription pricing is inexpensive, but online payment processing carries per-transaction fees on both plans (around 2.9% + $0.60 per card transaction on Starter; Pro waives the fixed $0.60 fee for the first 10 transactions each month, then reverts to the same rate). Wave also sells receipt scanning, payroll, and bookkeeper add-ons separately from the core subscription. Wave periodically runs promotional discounts on the first few months of Pro for new subscribers.

The sections below compare specific workflows in more detail. FinFlow Track claims reflect what is actually implemented in the product; Wave claims are limited to what Wave publishes officially, with links where useful.
FinFlow Track provides core double-entry-style bookkeeping modules including a chart of accounts, journals, a general ledger, and a trial balance, alongside day-to-day workflows like invoicing and expense tracking. It is a self-service financial record-keeping and reporting tool rather than a licensed accounting or tax-filing service.
Wave uses proper double-entry accounting on every plan, including Starter, and lets you create unlimited bookkeeping records either by manually entering transactions or by connecting a bank account (bank connections require Pro). Wave also sells access to its own in-house bookkeepers ("Wave Advisors") as a separate paid service starting from roughly $149/month.
FinFlow Track includes unlimited invoice creation and customization, recurring invoices, credit notes, estimates that convert to invoices, payment status tracking, and customer management — available starting on the Free plan.
Wave also includes unlimited invoices and estimates on every plan, with logo and brand-color customization, and the option to accept online payments directly on an invoice. Pro adds fuller brand customization, removal of Wave's own branding from invoice footers, attachments, reusable message templates, and automated late-payment reminders (which, notably, require the online payments feature to be enabled).
FinFlow Track supports manual expense entry and categorization on every plan, plus AI-assisted receipt and document scanning that automatically extracts vendor, amount, currency, date, and category from an uploaded receipt or document image to pre-fill an expense record for review — included at no extra cost.
Wave supports manual expense entry on every plan. Automatic transaction categorization from a connected bank feed requires Pro. Unlimited OCR-based receipt scanning is included on Pro; on Starter, it's available as a separate add-on (roughly $8/month or $72/year as of August 14, 2026).
FinFlow Track lets users upload a receipt or document image, which its AI extracts structured data from (vendor, amount, currency, date, category) to pre-fill an expense record for review — this is included on every plan, with no separate receipt add-on.
Wave supports receipt capture via its mobile app, desktop, or email, using OCR to turn a photographed receipt into a bookkeeping record. This is included on Pro; Starter users can add it as a standalone paid add-on rather than getting it free.
FinFlow Track supports bank account tracking and reconciliation against imported statement data. As currently implemented, statement data comes in via CSV file upload rather than a live, automatic connection to your bank on any plan.
Wave requires the Pro plan for automatic bank feed connections and transaction imports, facilitated through Plaid; Starter users import transactions manually. Even on Pro, Wave notes that not every financial institution is supported and connectivity can't be guaranteed for every bank.
FinFlow Track surfaces cash-flow visibility on the main dashboard, drawing on recorded income and expense transactions. It does not currently include a dedicated, standalone cash-flow forecasting report — cash-flow-style questions can be asked conversationally through the AI Bookkeeper, which analyzes existing recorded data rather than producing a formal projection.
Wave includes a cash-flow-oriented dashboard and cash flow statement on every plan, showing month-to-month and year-to-year comparisons to help identify trends. Like FinFlow Track, this reflects historical data rather than a forward-looking forecast.
FinFlow Track currently provides Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports, along with a Trial Balance, General Ledger, and Journals view under its accounting module. Report depth is plan-dependent per FinFlow Track's published pricing tiers.
Wave includes profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, accounts-aging reports, sales tax reports, and expense summaries on every plan, including Starter — Wave does not currently gate core reports behind Pro.
FinFlow Track supports more than 50 ISO currencies on every plan, including Free, as the company's base currency — set once at company creation but with full reporting and invoicing support in that currency — plus currency selection at the invoice level for cross-currency billing.
Wave takes a different approach: your business's base/reporting currency is fixed to either USD or CAD when you first create your Wave account and cannot be changed afterward, because Wave's signups are restricted to US and Canadian businesses. Within that constraint, Wave does let you create invoices and bills in a foreign currency, automatically tracking the estimated conversion (recorded as an unrealized gain or loss) back to your USD/CAD base currency — a real feature, but a narrower one than a fully currency-agnostic base currency.
FinFlow Track's AI Bookkeeper is a conversational assistant that answers questions about your live business data — for example, revenue for a period, top customers, which expense category is highest, or which invoices are overdue — by querying your existing records. It does not autonomously post transactions; it answers questions and surfaces insight. Separately, FinFlow Track uses AI to extract structured data from uploaded receipts to speed up expense entry.
Wave's automation centers on its Pro-plan bank-feed pipeline: once a bank account is connected, Wave auto-imports transactions and auto-merges/categorizes them based on your prior categorization patterns, plus automated late-payment reminders. Wave uses an automated support chatbot ("Mave") for help-center questions. Wave does not currently publish a conversational AI assistant for querying your financial data the way FinFlow Track's AI Bookkeeper does.
FinFlow Track maintains customer records with linked invoices, estimates, and payment status, available on every plan including Free.
Wave similarly maintains customer records linked to invoices and estimates, with payment status visible from the dashboard, on every plan including Starter.
FinFlow Track supports multiple companies and team members within a single account, with limits that scale by plan — from 1 company / 2 users on the Free plan up to unlimited companies and users on Enterprise, per its published pricing tiers.
Wave lets one login manage multiple separate business profiles, but each business is billed independently — if you run three businesses on Wave Pro, you pay the Pro subscription three times, once per business. On the free tier, you can add collaborators only in specific free roles (payroll manager, tax pro); broader roles (admin, editor, viewer) require Pro.
FinFlow Track's integration marketplace is still in development. As of August 14, 2026, the product does not have a public catalog of live third-party integrations; planned categories (payments, banking, productivity, CRM, e-commerce, and automation) are listed on the integrations page as future connections rather than currently available ones. Its Business plan includes API access for custom connections.
Wave offers a small number of natively built integrations — including PayPal, Etsy, and Shoeboxed — plus broader automation through Zapier and Make, letting Wave connect indirectly to a large number of other apps. Wave's pricing page notes that setting up third-party integrations is a Pro-plan feature, though existing Zapier connections can be kept without a Pro subscription.
FinFlow Track tracks invoice status (draft, sent, paid, overdue) manually — it does not currently include a built-in payment gateway that lets your customers pay an invoice online directly through FinFlow Track. Marking an invoice paid is a manual step once you've been paid through whatever method you and your customer use.
Wave includes an actual payment-processing feature: customers can pay a Wave invoice online by credit card, bank payment, or Apple Pay, with funds typically deposited within a few business days. This is available on both Starter and Pro, is currently limited to businesses in the US and Canada, is subject to identity verification/credit review approval, and carries per-transaction processing fees (lower on Pro for a business's first 10 monthly transactions). This is a genuine, structural difference — Wave functions as an accounting tool with an integrated payment gateway, while FinFlow Track is currently accounting/invoicing software without one.
This is one of the most consequential differences between the two products for an international audience. Wave states that, as of its November 2020 policy change, new account signups are limited to businesses based in the United States and Canada; users outside those markets who signed up earlier can generally keep using their existing account, but Wave does not guarantee ongoing compliance or full functionality outside the US/Canada, and some capabilities (like sending invoices and reminders directly through Wave, rather than as a PDF or link) are affected. Wave's payroll and online payment-processing features are US/Canada-only, and — as covered above — a Wave business's base currency is limited to USD or CAD.
FinFlow Track is built for a global audience: signup, the Free plan, and multi-currency support (50+ currencies) are available regardless of where your business is based.

Ease of use is subjective and depends on prior experience. Wave has a long track record with non-accountants specifically, and its dashboard is generally regarded as approachable for someone with no bookkeeping background — invoice creation, in particular, is quick to set up on Starter.
FinFlow Track's smaller, more focused feature set — invoices, expenses, reports, inventory, and multi-currency organized around a small number of modules — may feel faster to learn for someone who doesn't need Wave's payment-processing or add-on ecosystem and simply wants core bookkeeping without a US/Canada restriction.
If you're evaluating either product, both offer a genuinely free plan, so testing onboarding and day-to-day navigation for your specific workflows before committing is realistic on both sides (subject to Wave's regional signup restriction).
FinFlow Track uses encrypted (HTTPS) communication, authenticated user sessions, and role-based permissions to control what each team member can access. Data is stored on managed cloud infrastructure with row-level access controls. FinFlow Track does not claim regulatory certifications it has not obtained — see the security page and privacy policy for full details.
Wave states that it encrypts data in transit and stores it on servers with physical and technical access controls, and that it is a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified service provider — the highest tier of that payment-card security standard — with third-party audits performed annually. Review Wave's official security information and Wave privacy policy for current, authoritative details.
Support level scales with plan: standard support on Free, priority email support on Professional, priority support on Business, and dedicated support on Enterprise, per FinFlow Track's published pricing tiers. General help resources are available on the help center.
Wave states that live-person chat and email support are available Monday to Friday, 9 AM–4:45 PM Eastern. On the Pro plan this is included; on Starter, it requires an optional paid add-on. Wave also runs an automated chatbot ("Mave") in its help center for self-serve answers outside those hours.
Wave limitations above are based on its published US/Canada plan structure and policies as of August 14, 2026; confirm current details on Wave's official pricing and help pages, since terms — and regional availability — can change over time.
FinFlow Track does not currently offer a direct, automated Wave import. A general migration approach looks like this:
This comparison was written by the FinFlow Track team using our own product's actual implemented functionality and Wave's official documentation and pricing pages, checked on August 14, 2026. We consider pricing, free-plan limitations, core accounting functionality, invoicing, expenses, receipts, reporting, cash flow, multi-currency support, automation, payments, integrations, usability, target audience, and geographic availability. As the maker of FinFlow Track, we are not an independent reviewer — we've aimed to describe Wave fairly and to flag our own product's limitations rather than only its strengths. We did not conduct hands-on testing of Wave for this comparison; all Wave claims are sourced from Wave's public documentation and linked where relevant. Where we couldn't verify a detail confidently, we've said so and pointed you to the official source instead of guessing.
The cheapest accounting platform is not necessarily the lowest-cost option once payment-processing fees, plan restrictions, and the features you actually need are factored in. The best accounting platform is the one that matches your business's location, currency needs, financial workflows, and budget.
